We had a wonderful time this week learning about all types of local birds at the Wild Bird Care Center. Our guide, Melanie, gave us a wonderful and informative tour and presentation all about feathers! We got to see real owl and blue heron wings and many types of feathers. We also learned how the center takes care of injured birds until it is safe for them to be released back into their natural habitats. Afterwards, we took a hike in the forest and fed the chickadees! Some of the kids said that having the chickadees eat from their hands was their favourite part! Mine too!

Our exciting package arrived last week! 30+ baby caterpillars soon to transform into beautiful butterflies. The students were so excited! They mixed caterpillar food and helped transfer the caterpillars to their temporary home until they form their cocoons. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!

Geoboards 19/04/2012

Creating all kinds of shapes was the name of the game! The students used their geoboards and elastics to produce any kind of shape they could come up with! Then they counted the sides and the corners and shared with their friends!

Check out the pics of the kindergarten class making a poster for the firemen of Station 21 Platoon B. We were graciously toured around the station and as a thank you, we are making a poster with a firetruck and fireman picture. Students traced the image as it was projected onto the wall and coloured it in, a group effort to make a beautiful poster! We hope to brighten up their station with our art, a small token of appreciation for their tour and all they do for our community!

_What can you make with these 7 magic shapes? Students got creative as they played around with the shapes to make an image of their choice. They started by cutting out the shapes and then arranging them in endless possibilities. The sky is the limit when they use their imagination! Many skill building opportunities come from playing with tangrams; from geometry to shape vocabulary to spatial awareness! Not to mention creativity! What can you make with these 7 magic shapes!
